Felix’s story continues as the neighboring kingdoms send girls they hope he will marry to improve their political standing with the Ishtar Kingdom. Meanwhile, Felix is obsessed with a woman he hopes to bring onto his side as a tactician.
“What a lovely night. The autumn leaves are nice too♪”
Queen Gloriana raised her cup and sighed happily.
Ishtar was known for its forests and lakes, so its colors
were especially breathtaking during autumn.
That was why the queen decided they would have a leaf
viewing party.
“Yes, we really were blessed with wonderful weather.”
Felix chatted with her while surrounded by his guard captain
Ursula and by his new aide Shakti.
Louise was not present because she was away from the kingdom
for peace talks with Persephone.
In her place, he was accompanied by the foreign girls aiming
to be crown princess or at least his concubine: Persephone Princess Cornelia,
the Cleonlese princess, the Dalisin king’s niece, and the adopted daughter of
the Shelfaniel king. He was also joined by Ishtar girls like the Kriemhild
family’s youngest daughter, the former prime minister’s granddaughter Carol,
and regional nobles like Sasha.
Magali and a lot more maids were following along to look
after all the esteemed guests, so the group totaled more than 100.
“So that’s Persephone’s army.”
Brightly colored battle flags whipped in the wind. Silver
spear tips rose toward the sky between them, glittering in the sunlight.
Felix gulped at the sinister beauty of it and he turned back
toward the battle formation he had just ridden through.
“And this is Ishtar’s army.”
An equally brutal beauty lay before his eyes there.
Some were on foot, some rode horses, and some rode dragons,
but they all carried deadly weapons.
They all wore fearsome battle outfits, but he could tell they had tried to look as nice as they could.
“Oh, you horrid little thing, showing off your youth with that perfect skin.”
The sun had set and the world was closed off by a dark blue
curtain. Most people would be enjoying themselves before it was time to go to
bed.
Ishtar’s castle stood at the north end of their capital of
Zepuloa. Its Tower of Water served as the queen’s living space.
Felix used his title as crown prince to push past the
queen’s maids and force his way into the tower.
The white tower’s master used the fifth floor, two floors
from the top, as her bedroom.
Once there, he heard a gloomy voice coming from the other
side of the ornate door and his cheeks stiffened.
He had had a bad feeling ever since seeing Gloriana ask
Magali to follow her after dinner.
“You used your youth to seduce my adorable boy, didn’t you?”
“I-I…didn’t.”
“Get ready, Magali. We need to get out of here.”
Eternal Castle was located on the western end of Ishtar
territory.
It had been built as a summer home for the wealthy Kriemhild
family, so it was located in a scenic area and designed as a small but
fashionable chateau built from colorful stone.
Felix had barged into a large room with a decorative ceiling
and a holy beast drawn on the floor tiles.
“Prince!? What happened to you!?”
Magali had been waiting alone there, but now she stood up so
fast her red ponytail hopped up behind her.
Felix’s clothes were half removed and he had lipstick marks
all over him.
“I’m fine, really. I was prepared for this.”
“Please welcome Crown Prince Felix,” announced the protocol officer.
“C’mon, stand up straight. You’re the star tonight.”
Felix was reluctant, but Magali gave him a push on the back
and he stepped inside the high society event.
The higher your position in society, the later you arrived
at events like this. When Felix entered as the very last guest, all the boys and
girls already inside turned toward him.
“…”
A chandelier hung from the tall ceiling and the floor was
polished like a mirror. Over a hundred young ladies and gentlemen were gathered
and the tables were piled high with a wide variety of delicacies. A large space
was left clear in the center, presumably for dancing.
No one was dancing now, but only because they had stopped to
show the crown prince the highest courtesy.

“Sorry about the wait.”
Ishtar, Kingdom of Forests and Lakes, was one of the
fortress city-states on the west side of the continent. Its castle was named
Zepuloa and the northern tower had the best view. It had been dubbed the Tower
of Water and it was where Queen Gloriana lived her personal life.
Summer was about to officially begin, but a pleasant breeze
blew through at the top of that tower, so the occupants could stay cool without
relying on magic.
Crown Prince Felix stepped out onto the balcony with Ursula,
his guard captain, by his side. A fancy table and chairs had been set up in the
shade provided by a large parasol.
The woman seated there looked like sex appeal incarnate and
an intellectual woman in the red outfit of a civil official stood behind her on
the right, making for a scene of artistic beauty.
“Thank you for coming, my adorable boy♪”

(Why!? Why was Reese captured!?)
Meeting Maddock here was a surprise he had somewhat
anticipated, but meeting Reese here was entirely unexpected.
The chained girl glanced over at dazed Cloche for just a
moment, but then she turned to Maddock like she hadn’t even recognized him.
“Ooh, I hit the jackpot finding you♪”
Not even chaining her up dampened that girl’s spirit.
“Give up now, Maddock. There’s no escape now that I’ve found
you. Try not to piss yourself in terror♪”
That didn’t seem like something a captured girl should be
saying to her captor, but Cloche felt much the same.
(That’s right. I don’t know how she ended up captured here,
but we’ve finally found him. We know where he hides, so he can’t escape.)
“So how is work at the Bright Blossom?”
Cloche was in the office’s study room one afternoon.
Captain Elienne had found some free time to give him a one-on-one
lesson on magic theory.
They sat across a desk from each other while he read aloud
the textbook. Elienne crossed her arms and legs as she listened.
She surprised him with a question unrelated to the lesson,
so he answered in some puzzlement.
“I’ve gotten used to waiting tables. I’ve gotten to know
Theresa well enough that we sometimes eat together while on break.
Unfortunately, I have nothing else to report. I haven’t noticed any sign of
Maddock.”
It pained him that he had no results to show for his
mission.
“Um…am I imagining things or is Theresa, that songstress from the Bright Blossom, going out with Maddock?”
Cloche hesitantly made the suggestion at the Thunder
Gauntlets’ customary dinner.
“…”
The mercenary woman looked shocked at first, but they soon
started laughing.
“That’s quite a bold accusation.” Elienne stopped eating and
turned a serious expression toward the new trainee mercenary. “The Bright
Blossom isn’t an inn on the outskirts of the city. It’s one of the nicest
brothels in Aria. A songstress who works there will cost a lot of money. She
wouldn’t give a bandit boss the time of day.”
She would be the lover of a man with a lot more money and
power. It was absurd to think she would be going out with a wanted criminal.
“But, well, she’s a perfect match for the kind of woman
Maddock says he likes.”
“Hm, what should I do with this?”
When they fought off the bandits that attacked Luca the other day, Elienne
captured a few of them and handed them over to the knights.
For a kingdom, the loss of a village in their territory was
humiliating.
They could only speculate about what the knights had done,
but the captured bandits had given three hideout locations and the mercenary
groups based in Aria were hired to hunt down the bandits there.
Due to their crucial role in the previous battle, the
Thunder Gauntlets had been given one of the hideout locations all to
themselves.
Elienne led the attack and Cloche joined them for his first
ever battle.
Cloche and Reese’s job was to disguise themselves as fishermen’s
daughters and seduce the two lookouts standing in front of the cave. They took
the lookouts into the bushes where the others were hiding.
Seducing a man was an awkward thing for a boy, but he
completed his role without a hitch.
Captain Elienne even complimented him.
“…………………………………………”
One morning, Cloche awoke to find a girl’s face right in
front of his own.
He was sleeping on his left side, but a girl was sleeping on
her right side directly in front of him.
She had a healthily tanned face, small eyebrows, and a small
nose. Her mouth was hanging half open with drool dripping from it while she
breathed peacefully in her sleep.
(Wh-why is Reese here? Her bed is over there.)
As the newest member of the mercenaries, Cloche was sharing
Reese’s room. It was not a large room, but it did have two separate beds.
Yet now she was sleeping in the same bed as him. And she was
close enough for their breaths to reach each other.
She was more than just close. They lay in the same small
bed, below the same blanket, and with him practically holding her in his arms.
Their chests were nearly touching and their legs were tangled together.
Cloche tensed in surprise. He did not dare move and simply
stared wide-eyed at her sleeping face.
(Did she get up in the night to use the bathroom and got in
the wrong bed afterwards?)
“Shit! Shit! Shit!”
The village was ablaze. It was a small village of only 20
houses and a population of less than 100.
It was not known for any specific product and they lived a
meager life of tilling the barren land to just barely get by.
But for the people living there, it was home. Cloche, for
one, had been born and raised there. His family was there, his friends were
there – it was his entire world.
Harvest had been unusually good this year, so they had
actually had some excess to sell at the nearby city of Aria, giving the entire
village a little money to work with.
Cloche’s parents had had more money to spend and they had
just asked their children what they wanted for a birthday present when tragedy
struck.
“Hey, hey. Girls shouldn’t use such filthy language.”
Cloche wielded a machete used for chopping firewood and
around 10 strange men surrounded him. They all held brutal weapons dripping
with blood.
He knew all too well whose blood that was.
His face was pale with terror and he converted his anger
into courage as he shouted back at them.
“I’m a boy!”

“I see. So Admiral Dartanis is dead.”
With the ghost ship hunt complete, Ricardo returned to the
sea near Brakia before heading home. Governor-General Vanessa immediately
boarded his ship via a tugboat.
They had avoided the port just in case Carlotta tried to
retaliate for their sinking of the Soaring Spirit.
Ricardo met Vanessa in his cabin with Evaline and Rose by
his side. He gave her a report on the sinking of the Soaring Spirit.
She gave a quick silent prayer after she heard him out.
She understandably felt differently about her own kingdom’s
admiral and sailors being slaughtered as pirates.
Ricardo felt no sympathy for the crew of the Soaring Spirit,
but kept a quiet expression out of respect for Vanessa’s feelings.
