While Naoki’s party was getting as far away from the capital as they could, Leonora kneeled and bowed her head before the queen’s throne in the castle’s audience chamber.

“Whatever my reasons, I never should have disobeyed my queen. I will not attempt to defend my actions, so please tell me my punishment.”

Her formal apology and her solemn expression hinted at her determination.

But Sophie smiled as she responded.

“Why would I ever punish someone for doing the right thing, Leonora?”

“…!?”

“I have long thought you should think for yourself more often. Yes, ever since you became a royal knight ten years ago.”

“R-really?”

“You will be using this room during your stay,” said Mila after guiding him there. “I will be in the room across the hall if you need anything.”

 The castle gate had looked big from a distance, but it looked like it would reach the clouds from close up.

Naoki stood up in the wagon and celebrated like someone who had never seen a big city before.

Llusse the Elf gave him a cold look without getting up, but he could not help but feel excited after seeing such a fantasy sight.

And his eyes were drawn by more than just the buildings.

The road leading from the castle wall to the palace itself was filled with chamberlains and soldiers.

Filia had told him before that all this kingdom’s soldiers were women.

Sure enough, everyone wearing a sword and dressed like a warrior appeared to be a woman and a lovely one at that.

The occasional person dressed in bright clothing may have been major civil officials or nobles.

His eyes darted every which way because it was all so new to him.

Some white flowers had been placed on the altar in offering.

The gold speckles on the petals shined beautifully in the light of the candles meant to honor the dead in the dimly-lit mausoleum, giving them a pure elegance.

But those were not the usual flowers left in remembrance of the dead, so what were they doing here?

Ekaterina, who had left the flowers, continued to pray in silence.

She was the Saint of this kingdom of Lesdea.

The Saint was a special figure in Lesdea. It referred to a seer who could see into the future.
