Its white walls and large garden hinted at wealth and Zeke awoke to the morning sun shining through a crack in the curtains.

He had followed a strict routine when living in the school dorm, but now it was summer break. He had no teachers or roommates who would be upset if he went back to sleep.

“Eh? S-sorry, but I don’t know either.”

Makina also had a relationship with Nash, so she was honestly a little shaken as well.

There was a part of her that wanted to hide where he was so she could have him all to herself, but she had been searching for him as well.

The school was meant to produce skilled soldiers for the kingdom, so they needed all the experience they could get. Thus, they were given combat training out in the wild.

Wallace’s voice rang through the mountain forest.

He was the husband of Iris, the librarian who had helped out Makina and Tet at the Royal Library. Tet had never actually interacted with the man, but he was amused by the coincidence all the same.

“He seems nicer than Dominic,” commented Zeke.

“He does. I doubt he will be quite so cruel,” agreed Tet.

“He is a little loud for my tastes,” complained Camie.

The heat must have set a fire within the lifeforms outside because the cicadas were producing a great chorus as they searched for a mate.

The school was built in the center of Londomern, the most prosperous city on the island, so the noise of hundreds of thousands of people’s lives could be heard from the school building.

On the schoolyard, the Knight Section students were clacking wooden swords together and raising their voices in attack while their strict teacher passionately instructed them.

The inside of the school building was little different. The Magic Section was holding a practical lesson where the excellent students cast high-level magic that would shake the entire building when successful and cause a minor commotion when failed.

Britannica was currently the largest kingdom on the island, but it had once been a small landlocked kingdom. It had undergone rapid growth through repeated expansionist wars after the current king took the throne.

Once it had strategically conquered a kingdom holding an important port, people began to whisper that the king planned to send troops off the island of Irland and begin conquering the mainland as well.

But Britannica had one fatal flaw: the lack of a navy.

With its origins as a landlocked kingdom, most of its citizens were unfamiliar with the ocean or any major bodies of water at all. The most they had seen were the rivers and lakes of the Wells region.

Thus, the king had commanded that naval techniques be added to the troop training program. Not only did the soldiers need to know how to operate a ship, they needed to know how to swim so they did not sink like a stone after falling into the water.

And since Square was meant to raise the next generation of Britannican soldiers, it had a swimming class.

Londomern was now known as the royal capital, but the city had not originally been part of the Britannica Kingdom.

Britannica had only been founded a few decades prior and it had fought many wars of expansion, using its military might to absorb more and more smaller but older kingdoms.

It had eventually taken some territory from the Magical Kingdom started by Great Mage Joseph, which had contained Londomern, and that city had been made Britannica’s new capital.

That history left Britannica still at war with the Magical Kingdom.

But Londomern was surrounded by tall walls and the very academy Joseph had built there was now used to raise Britannican soldiers and mages.

Yoko was sipping a cheap drink at a pub counter when the man seated next to her asked that bewildering question.

She had left her fishing village hometown, registered as an adventurer, and traveled ever southward until she arrived in the Magical Kingdom, which had the second most land and population on the island.

The small pub was a busy place and some rough-looking men were downing drinks there. They had previously asked her to drink with them and she had agreed on the condition that they treated her to the most expensive drink in the house, so they had grimaced and backed off.

She knew they had been drawn to her good looks and body, but she was not interested in men like that. Still, it was not a bad feeling to have people respond positively to her appearance for once.

She had eyes as red as blood and her silver hair and white skin were so bright they shined like a field on a snowy day. Back in her insular village, she had been shunned for her unique appearance and name. But people and techniques of all kinds gathered in this Magical Kingdom, so no one gave her appearance a second thought.

Well, that part of her appearance anyway. More than a few men had hit on her after seeing the large breasts and deep cleavage visible through the gaps in her adventurer’s outfit and the long legs extending from her skirt.
