 I don’t often go to idol concerts, but I did used to work on a stage production.

Not on the stage, but backstage. I did the sound, the lights, and even operated the spotlight. I wanted to include a scene about PGS3 meeting with the backstage workers for their concerts, but I had to cut it since the novel was getting too long.

But whether it’s an idol concert or whatever else, you can’t have a stage production with just the stars up on the stage. Idols would be nothing without the backstage people preparing the stage for them and making sure they shine while up there.

And of course, the backstage people can only work so hard because of all the passionate fans supporting the idol.

Not that idols normally give sexual favors.

And yeah, this went well beyond what you could reasonably call “favors”. But those girls aren’t the type to care about those little details and it’s best not to think too much about the darker side of the industry.

The industry and finance ministers said that was fast becoming one of the kingdom’s primary industries, so PGS3 would soon be crucial to the Holy Pegasus Kingdom’s survival.

But the three knight girls were still troubled by their unanswered question.

“Like I said! We want you to release the data on the monster sightings!”

“Calm down, Misaka. We have yet to fully compile that data.”

The black-haired girl bit her lip when she saw the sullen look on the royal guard captain’s face.

One day, Tifa and the other knights were summoned by the foreign affairs minister and Royal Guard Commander Nebelstan.

They were there officially as the Pegasus Knights and not as the idol group PGS3. They had to wonder why they were being summoned beyond their ordinary duties, so they were nervous as they appeared before the plump middle-aged man and the muscular man.

“Um, why did you summon us here today?”

“Well, the thing is…some disturbing rumors are coming in from the border region. Some merchant caravans were attacked by monsters.”

A miracle occurred on that day.

The three Pegasus Knights who acted as the symbol of the Holy Pegasus Kingdom had their idol debut at a concert held in the Royal Arts Theatre’s great hall.

“Will the people really turn up for a concert by some amateur girls?”

A lot of skepticism was flying around, but those fears proved to be unfounded.

The tickets ran out almost as soon as they were available and people rushed to fill the standing room that did not require a ticket. Since the concert was not strictly part of their duties, entrance was free and the money for the venue, the equipment, and the staff had to be made through sales of video and audio disks.

“Thank you all so much for coming to see our first concert!”

Three girls moved their arms and legs in time with a rhythmical clap, clap, clap, clap of hands to perform beautiful dance steps.

“1, 2, 3, 4 – stay together now! Step 1, 2, and spin…and your finishing pose!”

With one final loud clap, the Pegasus Knights struck identical poses.

They had traded their usual knight uniforms for shirts and athletic shorts designed for ease of movement. Instead of the knight station, they were in a practice room commonly used by the Royal Opera Company for lessons.

Marion had used his connection to the opera company to get them access. For a week now, the three knights had been taking strict dance lessons from a sketchy-looking man with an afro and sunglasses.

“Hmm.”

Their dancing was far and above a beginner level, but the afro man still crossed his arms and tilted his head to show he wasn’t satisfied.

“Mr. Gellus, are we still doing something wrong?”

The brown-haired girl’s face visibly clouded over when she saw the monthly payment to the knights from the royal bank. Just as the finance minister had warned, the funding for the Pegasus Knights’ official duties had been cut.

“Wahhh, there’s so much less!”

“A drop of about 20%. We have you to thank for this, don’t we, Tifa?”

Black-haired Misaka’s comment put a bold smile on Tifa’s face, but Charl looked confused. After all, the finance minister had told them it would be a 40% cut.

Needless to say, Charl simply did not remember such details.

“We have also been given permission to use the storeroom next door as part of our station. Charl, move your personal things there.”

“Okayyy!”

Seeing her blonde friend happily giving the younger girl that instruction, Misaka could not deny the effectiveness of Tifa’s “sexual favors”.

(Although based on her story, she really only took advantage of the minister’s carelessness.)

His glaring eyes subconsciously stopped on her large chest.

Tifa herself might not be trying to draw the man’s eyes, but her well-grown breasts and model-like proportions did it for her. But she was too angry to notice the finance minister’s sexual harassing gaze.

“The Pegasus Knights are a long-held tradition and the symbol of our kingdom! How can you shove us into a cramped closet!?”

“Tifa T. Canesman?”

“Y-yes?”

“What other activities do your traditional knights have planned for this fiscal year?”

His rebuttal silenced her, but the talented black ponytail girl answered for her.

“We just finished the founding day parade the other day, so that leaves the royal banquet and the garden party with foreign dignitaries.”

The girl had waited so long for this day.

A bustling marketplace was open in the city and foreign merchants were selling and buying rare folk crafts and fruits. But the girl was most looking forward to the parade.

“Hurry up, grampa, or we’ll miss the parade.”

“Yes, I know, I know.”

She dragged her grandfather along to watch the parade from the spot she had had her eye on for a while. The parade commemorated the founding of the Holy Pegasus Kingdom and many visitors from other nearby kingdoms were invited in, but the people were most interested in the appearance of the knights.

“Oh, there they are!”

“It’s the Pegasus Knights!”
